How can economic fluctuations be smoothed? The 2026 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences through the eyes of WUEB researchers

WUEB expert: prof. dr hab. Marek Kośny, Vice-Rector for Research; prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Jajuga; prof. dr hab. Stanisław Czaja

Commenting on the award to Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford, WUEB researchers explained how household decisions shape the wider economy. Marek Kośny highlighted expectations of future income, Krzysztof Jajuga emphasised clear communication and trust in economic policy, and Stanisław Czaja discussed the limits of models used to assess its effects. Their contributions explain why changes in interest rates or benefits do not always produce the same consumer response.

WUEB expert: dr hab. Natalia Szozda, Professor of the WUEB, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, Head of the Department of Logistics

The supply chain researcher explains why smart cities should start with residents’ needs and assess the effects of new solutions. A micro-hub beneath the National Forum of Music provides an example: parcels are transferred from vans to cargo bikes for the final delivery stage. She argues that measurable consequences for transport, businesses and residents determine a solution’s value. The article develops themes from the Economic Forum panel on distinctive smart city initiatives.
