Why WUEB Takes Part in the Lower Silesian Science Festival?

Since 1998, the Lower Silesian Science Festival has evolved alongside the city of Wrocław, becoming a shared space for dialogue between universities and the wider public. From the very first edition, the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business (WUEB) has been actively co-creating the Festival. Over the past two decades, we have organised nearly two thousand events, attracting around 100,000 participants.

From hands-on experiments for children, through workshops tailored to young people, to engaging sessions with seniors – we support individuals in making informed decisions at every stage of life.

Our WUEB Strategy 2030 makes it clear: we are a lifelong learning university – a trusted educational partner throughout life. And we have been consistently putting this idea into practice.

On WUEB Campus: A Taste of Edible Insects

Our stall entitled “Not Just for the Brave” invites visitors to see, touch, and – for the curious – taste: house crickets, mealworms, and migratory locusts. For the cautious, we offer ‘hidden’ options: insect flour incorporated into protein bars, cookies, and snacks – sweet (chocolate-coated) and savoury (spicy).

Just a few minutes at this stand can shift perspectives – from curiosity to conviction: “This actually tastes good.”

WUEB at the Lower Silesian Science Festival 2025 – Programme Highlights

A concise overview: multiple paths, many temperaments

  • Experiment & Fun (for children)
Events such as “Abracadabra – Chemistry for the Youngest” and “Young Financier’s Workshop” introduce children to colourful chemical reactions, first financial calculations, and the joy of asking “why?”
  • Youth & Decisions
Workshops like “Generative AI – Facts vs Myths”, “AI and English Exams”, and “Building Your Personal Brand” offer evidence-based insight – steering clear of clichés and misinformation.
  • Adults & Everyday Security
From managing household finances during inflation, through behavioural investment psychology, to practical nutrition advice – we provide immediately applicable knowledge for daily life.

WUEB Branch in Jelenia Góra: A Proven Format, Refreshed

In Jelenia Góra, we’re bringing back our popular Urban Logistics show-workshop, co-created with courier firm DPD. Participants use four stationary bikes linked to a quiz platform, allowing them to cycle and answer road safety questions simultaneously. Next to it, a cargo bike awaits – a few hundred metres of test riding offer a first-hand glimpse into ‘last mile’ delivery logistics.

Following strong interest last year, the module returns in an upgraded version for 2025.

WUEB x LSFS – A University for a Responsible Economy

Economy and Society – A Shared Perspective

Our events combine economic expertise with the pressing social challenges of our time – from demographic shifts and energy transition to ESG and urban logistics. WUEB contributes a distinctive voice to the Festival, showcasing how economic sciences support the development of Lower Silesia and its communities.

We focus on practical applications of research and address key regional challenges:

  • urban and rural depopulation
  • ESG and green finance
  • sustainable logistics (in partnership with DPD)
  • cybersecurity and digital sovereignty of institutions

This is our hallmark: economics as a tool for sustainable socio-economic development

Social Responsibility – Science with Empathy

Together with the Cape of Hope Foundation, we organise workshops for children undergoing oncology treatment. Our academics will run activities such as “Colours, Light, and Bubbles – A Chemical Kitchen”

This is a unique dimension of science communication – where knowledge becomes a source of joy and comfort in the most difficult of circumstances.
