WUEB awarded Visegrad grant to study the skills gap across the V4
WUEB team: mgr Paulina Graczyk, mgr Kamila Łuczak, mgr Maciej Krahel
Prof. dr hab. inż. Małgorzata Krzywonos has joined the Management Committee of COST Action CA25139 BRASSCHI as one of Poland’s two representatives. The network will begin its work on 10 September 2026 and will focus on resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.
The Management Committee coordinates the network’s work plan and development. The WUEB expert will contribute her knowledge of the circular economy in the food sector, the use of industrial by-products, and the environmental and economic effects of innovation.

Prof. dr hab. inż. Małgorzata Krzywonos została członkinią Komitetu Zarządzającego działania COST CA25139 BRASSCHI i jedną z dwóch osób reprezentujących w nim Polskę. Sieć rozpocznie działalność 10 września 2026 r. i będzie pracować nad odpornymi, zrównoważonymi systemami rolno-spożywczymi.
Komitet Zarządzający koordynuje plan działania i dalszy rozwój sieci. Do prac ekspertka UEW wniesie wiedzę z zakresu gospodarki o obiegu zamkniętym w sektorze spożywczym, zagospodarowania produktów ubocznych oraz oceny środowiskowych i ekonomicznych skutków innowacji.
WUEB doctoral theses enter the digital world

WUEB Library is running a project to digitise 252 doctoral theses. It will produce 67,415 scans and has received PLN 197,964.25 from the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the Social Responsibility of Science III programme.
A total of 119 theses will undergo full processing, including the creation of accessible PDF/UA files and metadata records in the Lower Silesian Digital Library and the WUEB Knowledge Base. Another 133 will be scanned, organised and stored securely on a WUEB server. Full texts will be made available only with their authors’ consent.

WUEB joins discussions about TEEMA Technology Park in Miękinia

A coordination meeting on TEEMA Technology Park in Miękinia was held at the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office on 10 August. WUEB was represented by mgr Ałła Witwicka-Dudek, Director of the Centre for Business Cooperation, and dr hab. inż. Krzysztof Piontek, Professor of the WUEB.
They identified potential areas of cooperation: staff development, economic and labour-market analysis, risk management, data analysis and work with Lower Silesian businesses.

Dr hab. Piotr Gryszel joins the Sector Skills Council for Tourism

At the inaugural meeting of the Sector Skills Council for Tourism, 21 members received their letters of appointment. They included dr hab. Piotr Gryszel, Professor of the WUEB. The Council’s term runs from 2025 to 2029, and he represents the Main Board of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK).
The Council will identify skills gaps in tourism and support cooperation between education providers and employers. Its remit also covers technological change, including the impact of artificial intelligence on occupations and qualifications across the sector.

The programme examined the scale of the Chinese car market in Poland and the position of Lower Silesian automotive businesses facing growing competition. Dr hab. Radosław Pietrzyk, Professor of the WUEB, was a guest on Radio Wrocław’s Para dla Dolnego Śląska programme. The interview covered proposed changes to personal income tax, their cost and the groups of taxpayers that might benefit.
The government proposal would raise the second PIT threshold from PLN 120,000 to PLN 130,000 in 2027 and introduce a 24% rate for income between PLN 130,000 and PLN 150,000. At the time of publication, the proposal had not been finalised and still had to pass through the full legislative process.
Poland’s national brand in the media: how its image is changing in Germany

On 18 August, Poradnik Handlowca published an article about perceptions of Poland in Germany. It was based on a PAP interview with Jan Puhl, a journalist at Der Spiegel. Puhl described a change in the views of some Germans, while making clear that his observations did not come from a representative opinion poll.

Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń announces that she has submitted her resignation

On 21 August, dr hab. Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń, Professor of the WUEB, announced on X that she was submitting her resignation as Government Plenipotentiary for the Promotion of Poland’s National Brand. She expressed the hope that work on the national brand would continue.
