A WUEB expert in the Sector Council for IT, Telecommunications and Cybersecurity Skills

Dr hab. Andrzej Dudek, Professor of the WUEB, has been appointed as an expert of the Sector Council for IT, Telecommunications and Cybersecurity Skills. The appointment recognises his academic work in data analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning and information technologies used in the economy.

The involvement of a WUEB expert in the Council’s work comes at a time when the digital sector is shaping how businesses, public institutions and labour markets operate. Skills in data, information security, automation and artificial intelligence are becoming part of everyday organisational decisions.

They are relevant to finance, public administration, education, logistics, public services and risk management. In each of these areas, organisations need people who can understand data, assess digital tools and make informed decisions in complex technological environments.

A Council working on skills for the digital economy

The Sector Council for IT, Telecommunications and Cybersecurity Skills operates within the system of sector councils coordinated by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. Its tasks follow from the Act on the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, including Article 4e(2), which refers to identifying skills needs and supporting cooperation between the economy and education.

The current Council project is implemented by the Polish Information Processing Society under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 programme. The Council gathers information from companies operating in IT, telecommunications and cybersecurity, analyses skills needs and supports activities that help align education with labour market requirements.

In practice, this means identifying the skills that organisations need in a rapidly digitalising economy. These include technical, analytical and organisational skills, as well as the ability to understand data, assess risk and use digital tools responsibly. In IT and cybersecurity, these needs change quickly and require regular diagnosis and cooperation between business, public administration, schools, universities and experts.

Analytical skills for the digital economy

Dr hab. Andrzej Dudek, Professor of the WUEB, has been associated with Wrocław University of Economics and Business for many years. His research interests include business informatics, data science, financial engineering, data analysis, machine learning, neural networks and the use of the R environment in research and analytical practice.

These areas are central to the contemporary economy, where data has become one of the basic resources of organisations. Its effective use requires IT tools, knowledge of analytical methods, attention to information quality, awareness of model limitations and an understanding of the consequences of decisions based on computational results.

Professor Dudek’s research profile fits closely with the work of the Council, as it focuses on skills needed by organisations working with data, analytical models and technologies that support decision-making.

WUEB in the debate on future skills

The appointment of dr hab. Andrzej Dudek, Professor of the WUEB, as a Council expert strengthens the presence of Wrocław University of Economics and Business in the national debate on skills needed by the digital economy. This is an area where academic knowledge has direct practical use: it helps identify labour market needs, describe new requirements for employees and indicate directions for the development of education.

The involvement of a WUEB expert also creates space for cooperation between academia and the IT, telecommunications and cybersecurity sectors. This may concern study programmes, research and development projects, and initiatives supporting the development of future skills.

The presence of a WUEB representative among experts contributing to the development of digital skills shows the University’s active role in discussions on technological change, the labour market and the responsible use of data. In today’s economy, decisions increasingly require economic, analytical and technological knowledge to be considered together.
