The past week showed the breadth of issues addressed by experts from Wrocław University of Economics and Business: from civic energy, financial technologies and digital skills to food safety, family policy, labour market issues, taxation, credit and zero-emission transport. Across these activities, WUEB expertise helped explain complex economic and social processes and connect them with decisions that matter to institutions, businesses and local communities.
Civic energy needs economists. WUEB among the signatories of the “Energy for People” declaration
WUEB Expert: prof. dr hab. Andrzej Graczyk
Wrocław University of Economics and Business has joined the signatories of the “Energy for People” declaration, signed during the Civic Energy Forum in Wrocław. Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Graczyk signed the document on behalf of the University.
The declaration goes beyond the technological dimension of energy transition. Civic energy requires financing models, local energy management, investment appraisal and competent local leadership. This is where economists and WUEB experts have a clear role: they help translate the idea of energy transition into solutions that can work in municipalities, communities and local partnerships.
WUEB and the Global Harmonization Initiative: food safety, research and shared standards
WUEB Expert: dr hab. inż. Agnieszka Orkusz, Professor of the WUEB
WUEB hosted meetings with Dr Diana Bogueva, President of the Global Harmonization Initiative. The discussions covered research cooperation, WUEB participation in GHI working groups and plans for the GHI Congress in 2027.
The visit was hosted by dr hab. inż. Agnieszka Orkusz, Professor of the WUEB and GHI Ambassador in Poland. The meetings showed that food safety now depends on international cooperation, shared standards and dialogue between science, regulation and consumer decisions.
Local government brand as a tool for development. Prof. Andrzej Raszkowski on reputation, strategy and trust
WUEB Expert: dr hab. Andrzej Raszkowski, Professor of the WUEB
In an interview published by Dziennik Warto Wiedzieć, dr hab. Andrzej Raszkowski, Professor of the WUEB, explained why the brand of a city, municipality or county does not begin with a logo or a promotional campaign. It is shaped by everyday decisions: the quality of public services, the credibility of declarations, relations with residents and the capacity to cooperate.
The WUEB expert perspective brings order to a topic often reduced to promotion. In practice, a local government brand is a development tool, because it affects the trust of residents, investors, entrepreneurs, tourists and institutions working with local administration.
WUEB expert joins the Sector Council for IT, Telecommunications and Cybersecurity Skills
WUEB Expert: dr hab. Andrzej Dudek, Professor of the WUEB
Dr hab. Andrzej Dudek, Professor of the WUEB, has been appointed as an expert of the Sector Council for IT, Telecommunications and Cybersecurity Skills. This is a clear example of WUEB expertise contributing to work on the skills needed in the digital economy.
The Council identifies and forecasts skills needs in the IT, telecommunications and cybersecurity sectors. Prof. Andrzej Dudek brings to this work a perspective rooted in data analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning and information technologies used in the economy.
Wrocław has FinTech potential. WUEB expert: now it must become an advantage
WUEB Expert: dr hab. Andrzej Raszkowski, Professor of the WUEB
Another article on the FinTech sector asked whether Wrocław can turn its resources into a real market advantage. The city has universities, specialists, an IT sector, banks and technology companies, but the mere presence of these assets is not enough to build a strong ecosystem.
Prof. Andrzej Raszkowski points to the capacity to connect resources through projects, partnerships, implementations and investment. This perspective shows the value of regional research: it helps identify where potential already exists and where it still requires decisions, coordination and consistency.

14th National Congress of Large Families in Lipno: time to stop thinking about the family as a set of individuals
WUEB Expert: prof. dr hab. Marek Kośny
Prof. dr hab. Marek Kośny took part in a debate during the 14th National Congress of Large Families in Lipno. In a discussion on family policy, he stressed the need to view the family as an economic subject, rather than only as a collection of individuals.
This is a relevant voice in the debate on taxation, the costs of raising children and the real payment capacity of households. The WUEB expert perspective helps move the discussion about families from declarations to specific institutional solutions.
Several thousand zlotys in holiday support. Not every employee will receive the money
WUEB Expert: dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska
In Bankier.pl, Dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska explained the rules governing holiday support from the Company Social Benefits Fund. The topic is practical, but it also shows the importance of understanding the relationship between labour law, an employee’s personal situation and the principles of benefit financing.
The article clarifies issues that are often confused: who may receive the benefit, what determines its amount and why it should not be granted to everyone on an equal basis. It is an example of expert commentary on personal and employee finance written for a broad audience.
Erste pays entrepreneurs up to PLN 4,500. They can gain even more
WUEB Expert: dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska
In another Bankier.pl article, Dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska analysed a business account promotion for entrepreneurs. The text shows that an attractive bonus requires careful checking of the conditions, deadlines and tax obligations.
This is an important area of economic education for micro and small businesses. An entrepreneur makes a financial decision after reviewing costs, activity conditions, tax effects and the limitations set out in the terms and conditions.
The minimum wage is rising again. More than pay will change
Expert from WUEB: dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska
Dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska wrote in Bankier.pl about the effects of the planned increase in the minimum wage. The article shows that the minimum wage is a reference point for many other benefits, limits and costs, including night work allowance, severance payments, benefit bases and employer-side burdens.
This is a useful example of a text that brings clarity to the debate on wages. A change in the minimum wage affects an employee’s monthly pay, company costs, the benefits system and public-law settlements.
PLN 100,000 cash loan. These banks currently have the cheapest offers
WUEB Expert: dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska
In Bankier.pl’s cash loan ranking, Dr Dominika Florek-Sapkowska compared offers for a PLN 100,000 loan over 60 months. The analysis covered options with and without insurance, showing differences in instalments, total costs and APRC.
Such comparisons have educational value because they help readers see that the cost of credit is not limited to the monthly instalment. Commissions, insurance, the total repayment amount, offer conditions and the profile of the model customer used in the ranking also matter.
MZUK begins cooperation with Wrocław University of Economics and Business
WUEB Expert: dr Paweł Brusiło
Miejski Zakład Usług Komunalnych in Wałbrzych has signed a cooperation agreement with Wrocław University of Economics and Business. The cooperation includes research into the implementation of hydrogen buses in public transport.
At the centre of this work is a practical question about the cost-effectiveness, organisation and conditions for implementing zero-emission transport. Dr Paweł Brusiło, whose research covers EU energy policy and the techno-economic evaluation of zero-emission vehicles, connects academic analysis with operational and financial data.
