Recognition for his lifetime contribution to statistics and data analysis in economics and finance.
The Prime Minister of Poland has announced the 2025 recipients of the Prime Minister’s Prizes for outstanding achievements in science, research, and academic leadership. Among the laureates in the most prestigious category – achievement in scientific activity – is Professor Krzysztof Jajuga, one of Poland’s most distinguished economists, Professor at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, and Head of the Department of Financial Investments and Risk Management.

A research profile recognised nationally and internationally
Professor Jajuga was honoured for his lifetime academic achievements, including pioneering research, the development of scientific disciplines, and the mentoring of young researchers. His work in statistics, data analysis, risk management, and quantitative finance has been widely applied across the banking sector, capital markets, macroeconomic policy, and the modelling of socio-economic phenomena.
He is the author of numerous highly cited academic publications (including in the Statistics in Transition, Pattern Recognition, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis), serves as an editor for leading economic journals, and is the founder and organiser of the „Wrocław Conference in Finance” – a well-established event.
Academic leadership and long-term commitment to research excellence
Professor Jajuga has played a prominent role in shaping science policy in Poland. From 2011 to 2015, he served as Chair of the Committee on Statistics and Econometrics at the Polish Academy of Sciences, as a member of the Central Committee for Academic Degrees and Titles, and later as Chair of the Social Sciences Team at the Council for Scientific Excellence.
He has supervised dozens of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, many of whom now lead academic and professional institutions both in Poland and internationally.
An internationally respected scientific authority
A Professor of Economic Sciences, Professor Jajuga has lectured at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, the Warsaw University of Technology, the Cracow University of Economics, and at several international institutions, including in the United States and China. He has been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Cracow University of Economics and the WSB Academy in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
His research spans finance, risk management, real estate markets, emerging technologies, statistics, and econometrics. He served as President of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) – a global scientific organisation in the field of data analysis. He is currently Chair of the Committee on Financial Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences, President of CFA Society Poland, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL).
