On 23 April 2025, Professor Marek Kośny, Vice-Rector for Research at Wrocław University of Economics and Business (UEW), received his professorial nomination from the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw. The formal conferral of the title of Professor of Social Sciences in the discipline of Economics and Finance had occurred in June 2024.

Academic profile and achievements
Professor Kośny has been associated with the Wrocław University of Economics and Business for many years. He previously served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Finance and as Chair of the Senate Committee for Research and Academic Staff. Since 2024, he has been Vice-Rector for Research for the 2024–2028 term, while also heading the Department of Econometrics and Operations Research.
His research focuses on the application of statistical and econometric methods to socio-economic analysis. Combining theory with practice, he has led and participated in numerous research and implementation projects for both the public and private sectors. He co-developed innovative social solutions, including the concept of Social Service Centres, which have been incorporated into Polish legislation.
Professor Kośny has prepared expert opinions for institutions such as the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, and the Polish Economic Institute. His studies have often contributed to shaping national social and economic policy.
He also serves in multiple advisory roles, including as Chair of the Scientific Council of the Polish Economic Association (PTE), member of the National Development Council (Social Affairs Section) at the President’s Office, the Council for Statistics at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs, and the Council of the Polish Statistical Association (Wrocław branch).

Professor Kośny’s career exemplifies how academic passion, dedication, and institutional engagement can lead to the highest scholarly distinctions. As a researcher, teacher, and mentor to young academics, he continues to strengthen UEW’s position as a centre for innovative economic research addressing contemporary social and economic challenges.
