Prof. Marek Kośny on the Programme Committee of the IEA World Congress 2026

In June 2026, Belgrade will host the IEA World Congress – one of the most significant events in global economics. The forum, organised by the International Economic Association (IEA), brings together hundreds of researchers every few years to examine key trends shaping the world economy.

Marek Kośny WUEB

UEW as a partner in the international debate

At the invitation of the Committee Chair, Professor Eric Maskin (Harvard University), Nobel Laureate in Economics, Professor Marek Kośny, Vice-Rector for Research at the Wrocław University of Economics and Business (UEW), has joined the Programme Committee. This distinction carries special weight – Professor Kośny is one of only three economists from Central and Eastern Europe invited to co-develop the Congress programme.

Congress theme: the economy in times of tension

The Congress theme, “Contrasting World Visions: Globalism vs Nationalism, Multilateralism vs Bilateralism, and Democracy vs Autocracy,” captures the contradictions that define today’s global economy. The programme will feature over 400 academic presentations and debates, with participants including Nobel Laureates and scholars from Harvard, Princeton, Sciences Po, and NYU.

Through Professor Kośny’s involvement in the Programme Committee, UEW actively contributes to shaping an event that will influence research and policy discussion in the years ahead.
