Prof. Krzysztof Jajuga elected President of IFCS

We are pleased to announce that Professor Krzysztof Jajuga has been elected President of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) for the term 2025–2026.

The International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) is a global scientific organisation uniting researchers specialising in data analysis. Founded in 1985, it brings together 18 national scientific societies from around the world, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and South Africa.

The Federation represents several thousand researchers engaged in various aspects of data analysis and classification. Since 1993, Poland has been represented in IFCS by the Section on Classification and Data Analysis of the Polish Statistical Association.

Three main features characterise the work carried out within IFCS:

1. Diverse methods: The Federation’s research draws on both traditional statistical and econometric approaches and modern machine learning techniques—part of artificial intelligence—requiring high computing power and large datasets.
2. Interdisciplinary reach: IFCS members explore theoretical and practical issues across numerous fields, including economics, finance, management, medicine, psychology, sociology, geography, real estate, architecture, agriculture, media (including social media), engineering, literature, and music.
3. Varied data types: The analyses encompass numerical and textual data as well as video, audio, sensor, and satellite data.

The scope of research undertaken within the IFCS reflects the growing global importance of data science—a discipline central to economic growth and social development.
