Prof. Andrzej Bąk appointed to the Innovation Council

We are pleased to announce that Professor Andrzej Bąk, representing the Wrocław University of Economics and Business (WUEB), has been appointed to the Council for Innovation in Higher Education and Science. The appointment was formally presented by Maria Mrówczyńska, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, acknowledging Professor Bąk’s significant contribution to advancing science and innovation in Poland.

About the Council:

The Council for Innovation plays a vital role in identifying and analysing issues related to innovation policy within the higher education and research sectors. The team, chaired by Michał Wieczorowski, is responsible for reviewing organisational and legal frameworks and developing systemic recommendations to enhance innovation in academia. The Council also supports the Ministry’s initiatives to promote innovation across Polish universities and the wider research community.

As Undersecretary Maria Mrówczyńska noted:

“I am delighted that the Council for Innovation in Higher Education and Science has begun its work. Its mission is essential for building a modern system of science and education in Poland. The cooperation of experts will help develop solutions that improve university operations and strengthen innovation across the research sector.”

About Professor Andrzej Bąk:

Professor Andrzej Bąk is a recognised expert in econometrics and data analysis. A graduate of the former Wrocław University of Economics (now WUEB), he earned his PhD in economics with a dissertation on the application of computer simulation techniques. His habilitation work focused on decomposition-based methods for measuring preferences.

His research interests include microeconometrics, preference studies, multivariate statistical analysis, and applications of machine learning in economics.

Between 2012–2015, he headed the Department of Microeconometrics and Economic Informatics and served as a member of the University Senate. Previously, he was Vice-Dean for Research and Chair of the Faculty Research Committee (2005–2008 and 2008–2012) at the Faculty of Economics, Management and Tourism in Jelenia Góra.

Professor Bąk has served on the University Senate during the 2012–2016 and 2016–2020 terms. He is Editor-in-Chief and a member of the Scientific Council of the Research Papers of Wrocław University of Economics and Business (since 2012) and a member of the Editorial Board of Argumenta Oeconomica (since 2013).

His academic output includes numerous research papers, textbooks, and software tools for economic data analysis. He also led the MNiSW research project Measurement, Analysis and Visualisation of Revealed and Expressed Preferences Using Multivariate Statistical Methods and the R Programme (2009–2012).

He is an active member of the Classification and Data Analysis Section of the Polish Statistical Association, the Committee on Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Wrocław Branch), and recipient of several awards, including the Individual Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education (2006), multiple Rector’s Awards, and the 65th Anniversary Medal of WUEB (2012).
