Development and validation of a model for measuring expatriate adaptation in Poland
Previous studies have relied on simplistic conceptualizations (e.g., Black et al., 1991; Taft, 1988) or extensive lists of variables (Grove, Torbiörn, 1985; Gudykunst 2005a, 2005b) that are not central to the adaptation process. Moreover, researchers use expatriate adaptation models developed some two decades ago (e.g. Black et al., 1991, Taft, 1977).
Therefore, the main objective of the study was established to develop and validate the author’s scale for measuring expatriate adaptation in Poland.
The development of an appropriate scale for measuring expatriate adaptation will contribute to the development of research in this area and the testing of theories (e.g., person-environment P-E fit (Dawis, Lofquist, 1984) or the U-curve of Oberg (1960)) within the behavioral management research stream (Davis et al., 2013).
The measurement scale used also opens up the possibility of further testing in different areas of specific industries and organizations, including different levels of the management structure
(e.g. Haak-Saheem et al., 2023).
In addition, a set of “ready-made” factors determining the adaptation process in the host country can ensure the success of the mission, and thus the achievement of business (organizational) goals.
