Why do some European regions fall behind, and why does buying insurance not always provide the protection people expect? This week, WUEB experts offered perspectives on economic development and everyday financial decisions. The review also covers research on children\u2019s nutrition, employee wellbeing and academics\u2019 involvement in assessing business initiatives. The Bankier.pl Finance Forum at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business provided a setting for discussions about the economy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regional development researcher received the Polish Economic Society\u2019s Professor Edward Lipi\u0144ski Award for his monograph \u201cLagging Regions in the European Union: Structural, Productivity and Efficiency Aspects\u201d. The book examines economic disparities between EU regions, changes in labour productivity and the efficiency of European funding. His research assesses cohesion policy through the results it achieves, providing an analytical basis for discussions about how to support regions that are falling behind.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interia Biznes reports on Ilona Kwiecie\u0144\u2019s contribution to the EKF Insurance conference. The insurance expert explains that a protection gap can arise because someone has no policy, because cover does not meet their needs, or because a payment falls short of expectations. She also highlights the difficulty of assessing insurance before a claim and understanding policy exclusions. Her analysis shows why providing more information does not, by itself, build trust or ensure adequate protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixth edition of the competition for the best workplace wellbeing projects<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dorota Molek-Winiarska, whose research focuses on employee wellbeing and occupational stress, has joined the judging panel for \u201cThe Best of Wellbeing at Work\u201d. The competition recognises organisations that take a systematic approach to working conditions, relationships and organisational culture. Entries are assessed for coherence and their long-term effects on employees. Her contribution brings expertise in the psychological aspects of people management to the assessment. Applications close on 16 November 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is the planetary diet entering school canteens? Less meat, more pulses<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

WUEB expert<\/strong>: dr hab. in\u017c. Agnieszka Orkusz<\/a>, Professor of the WUEB<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bstok.pl draws on research by Agnieszka Orkusz and Diana Bogueva into menus in Wroc\u0142aw preschools. The analysis found excessive protein and sugar alongside insufficient provision of some nutrients, including calcium and vitamin D. These findings show why the presence of meat does not establish that meals are nutritionally balanced. The WUEB researcher\u2019s contribution centres on assessing the whole menu and its nutritional value. The article also distinguishes the planetary diet, developed for adults, from children\u2019s specific dietary needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Czes\u0142aw Zaj\u0105c discussed adapting education to technological change, developing social skills and research collaboration through AI Hub. He emphasised human responsibility for reliable content and the importance of relationships between the University, the city and business. WUEB hosted the Forum on 23\u201324 October.
