The past week showed the range of issues on which experts from Wroclaw University of Economics and Business contribute to public debate: from economic security and demography to financial markets, institutional design, local energy and property taxation. A major academic event also stood out: the award of an honorary doctorate by WUEB to Professor Eric S. Maskin, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Children\u2019s Day, we talk about demographic change<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

WUEB expert<\/strong>: dr \u0141ukasz Jurek<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr \u0141ukasz Jurek commented on demographic change in a feature prepared for Children\u2019s Day. The issue reaches across the labour market, the pension system, public services, healthcare and state finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An expert perspective helps present demography as a process whose effects build gradually, but shape practical decisions: how to design social policy, organise care for older people and prepare public institutions for changes in the age structure of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr hab. Artur Klimek, Associate Professor at WUEB, commented on the tension between the speed at which financial markets react and the real constraints of the economy. This matters when the prices of assets, commodities or financial instruments can change instantly, while production, transport, logistics and supply remain dependent on infrastructure, time and political decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WUEB expert\u2019s comment helps organise a problem relevant to companies, investors and public institutions. It shows that economic analysis needs to combine market data with knowledge of geopolitics, supply chains and real production capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WUEB experts commented on the conditions for the possible introduction of a cadastral tax in Poland. The article points to a basic issue: without a general property valuation, meaning a systemic assessment of property values, it is difficult to speak of any real readiness for such a change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WUEB event: honorary doctorate awarded to Professor Eric S. Maskin<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Eric S. Maskin, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, received an honorary doctorate from Wroclaw University of Economics and Business. It was one of the most important academic events of the week and a distinction of international standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Maskin\u2019s work is linked, among other areas, to mechanism design theory. This field of economics helps explain how to create rules for markets and institutions so that they lead to defined outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
