Research on efficiency and productivity change of decision-making units: new methods based on machine learning techniques and empirical applications<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The main objectives of the project entitled “Research on Efficiency and Productivity Change of Decision Making Units: New Methods on the Basis of Machine Learning Techniques and Empirical Applications” <\/em>are, on the one hand, to push the boundaries of methodological knowledge onData Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Free Disposal Hull (FDH) techniques with regard to their deterministic nature and robustness of results using machine learning techniques, and, on the other hand, to apply DEA and FDH in less studied empirical contexts, concerning courts in Poland and investment portfolios with sustainability criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a methodological point of view, the biggest challenge in DEA and FDH studies is that the standard versions of these methods are deterministic, i.e., they assume that the research data are observed without measurement errors, sampling errors or specification errors in the model variables. A related challenge is to test the efficiency results obtained with DEA and FDH for their robustness (robustness) or sensitivity (sensitivity) to certain changes in the data, such as the addition or omission of units or the addition or omission of certain inputs or outputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From an empirical point of view, DEA and FDH have been widely used to analyze many areas, among others. Banking, education, health care, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, tourism and transportation. There is relatively little research in the area of applications for assessing efficiency and\/or productivity change for the judiciary in Poland and for investment portfolios with sustainability criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project manager is dr hab. in\u017c. Magdalena Kapelko, prof. WUEB (Department of Logistics). Magdalena Kapelko was an assistant professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain from 2009 to 2012. He has held a PhD (European doctorate) from the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona in Spain since 2009, and a postdoctoral degree from the Wroclaw University of Economics since 2018. She has been a visiting professor or visiting researcher at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Universidad Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez de Elche in Spain, University of Florida in the US and Linnaeus University in Sweden. Her main research interests include measuring the efficiency and productivity of decision-making units. She is the author or co-author of numerous scientific publications, including 43 articles published in journals distinguished on the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) list, among others. European Journal of Operational Research, Expert Systems with Applications, OMEGA – The International Journal of Management Science, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, American Journal of Agricultural Economics and Journal of Agricultural Economics. She has led two projects funded by the National Science Center in Poland and one project funded by an institution in the Netherlands, is on the Management Committee of the COST Action, and has been and is a contractor on many projects funded by Spanish grant-giving institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will be carried out in international collaboration with researchers from universities in Spain (Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH), Charles III University of Madrid (UC3M), CEU Cardenal Herrera University) and the Netherlands (Wageningen University & Research (WUR)).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
